This paper reports characterization of Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) external laser source (ELS) modules which integrate an 8-channel CWDM TOSA into QSFP and OSFP housings, respectively. Based on thermal simulations and experiments in practical air-cooling conditions, acceptable power consumption for QSFP and OSFP ELS modules are estimated as 8.4 W and 11.4 W, respectively. QSFP and OSFP ELS modules achieve optical output power of 21 dBm/ch and 22 dBm/ch under the conditions of an ambient temperature of 40 °C and an air flow rate of 3.75 CFM.. |
