Toward beyond 5G/6G, research on wireless communications in non-terrestrial environments―such as space and underwater―is advancing. Underwater acoustic communication, however, faces capacity challenges due to frequency limitations and doubley-selective channel. Suppressing interference from these long delayed signals is essential for stable wideband communication. While OFDM transmission typically mitigates such interference by inserting a guard interval (GI), the long delays underwater require longer GIs, increasing overhead. We have proposed a highly efficient underwater acoustic OFDM transmission scheme based on interference suppression using blind adaptive arrays. In this paper, we introduce the design of the scheme for MIMO application and our experimental efforts in an ultrasonic anechoic tank for further increasing the capacity of the scheme. |
