In Japan, natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis and typhoons occur frequently. Serious disasters may cause damage to traffic networks and telecommunication infrastructures, leading to the occurrence of isolated areas that are completely disconnected from the outside world. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce a rapid and flexible method for data collection instead of temporarily unavailable ground base stations in these areas. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are considered suitable for the post-disaster data collection mission because of their high mobility and low cost. Detailed information about the damage situation will be collected from the user equipments (UEs) such as smartphones and tablets by a UAV through a fly-hover-fly procedure, and then will be sent to the disaster response headquarters for disaster relief. However, considering the requirement of rapid response and the battery constraint of UAVs, mission completion time minimization becomes a crucial task. In this study, we proposed a 3-dimentional UAV flight trajectory, discussing the appropriate flight altitude and deployment of hovering points to simplify the UAV flight trajectory. The simulation results have shown the feasibility of our method to reduce the mission completion time. |
