A flat plate placed on a non-planar vibrating surface may jump due to a sudden increase in acoustic radiation force as the vibration amplitude increases. When the center of acoustic radiation force is located away from the center of gravity of the flat plate, the flat plate performs a vertical swiveling motion. This report describes the results of an experimental investigation into the possibility of catching a flat plate in a state of near-field acoustic levitation on a radiating surface without contact after the vertical swiveling motion. Experiments and sound field analysis showed that the strong radiating force is generated when a standing wave sound field is formed between the radiating surface and the flat plate; the flat plate was held in place and did not move because of the strong radiative force generated. Therefore, it is possible to control the magnitude of the radiating force according to the position of the flat plate to catch it near the radiating surface, and this was achieved experimentally. |
