In this paper, we investigate an on-chip contact angle sensor using coplanar capacitors. Contact angle estimation is important for EWOD (ElectroWetting-On-Dielectric) microfluidic systems. A preliminary work proposed a contact angle sensor using coplanar capacitors. For microfluidic systems, the sensor should be small enough to integrate with droplet controlling electrodes. This paper discusses feasibility to realize the contact angle sensor by on-chip wires. Electromagnetic simulations show that we can estimate contact angle by on-chip wires. The appropriate sensor size is discussed based on the accuracy of contact angle estimation by droplet edge position. |
