A Study on RIS Installation Effects in Urban Macro-cell Environment (2)

(in English) Currently, the use of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), which can actively control the reflection direction of radio waves, is being considered to address coverage holes in high-frequency bands and improve communication quality. The effectiveness of RIS in real environments has been verified through propagation measurements using prototypes, but the results are still insufficient. Therefore, we are investigating theoretical analysis methods for the effects of installing RIS. In this paper, we propose a method for analyzing the effects of installing RIS in urban macrocell environments, using a "scattering pattern from a flat plate" based on Physical Optics (PO) as the RIS scattering pattern. We also evaluate the validity of the proposed method by comparing it with ray-trace simulations.
