(in English) This report reviews technological trends in the optical network field at ECOC2024. The conference was held in Frankfurt, Germany this year. In addition to the latest research of wideband wavelength division multiplexing with O, E and S-band, and spatial division multiplexing technologies, which have been widely reported as a solution to increase the scale and capacity of optical networks, studies of optical network architecture from submarine, metro/core to access, in particular, the confluence of all optical metro/access networks and services have been reported, revealing the continuous revolution of optical networks. Moreover, new promising research approaches based on Digital Twin and Large Language Model for large-scale and complicated optical network monitoring, management, and control have been reported.
