[Invited Lecture] Fundamental Characteristics and Its Applications of Silicon-On-Insulator Photodetector with Surface Plasmon Antenna

(in English) Silicon-on-insulator (SOI) photodetector with metal diffraction grating type surface plasmon (SP) antenna can show high light sensitivity for a specific condition of incident light due to the efficient coupling between the evanescent light excited under SP antenna and the SOI waveguiding mode. By appropriately designing the structure, the photodetector with the sensitivities for various light information including wavelength, incident angle, polarization, and so on, can be developed. In this report, the fundamental characteristics of SOI photodetector with SP antenna are clarified by both the simulated results using finite difference time domain (FDTD) methods and the measured results, and the application example is also demonstrated.
