The Internet of Things (IoT), a technology that connects various "things" such as home appliances, cars, and buildings to the Internet, has attracted much attention. Wireless Smart Utility Network Field Area Network (Wi-SUN FAN), one of the wireless communication standards for the IoT and a technical specification suitable for the construction of a wide range of indoor and outdoor IoT networks, uses the Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) as its routing protocol, which enables data collection with as few dead zones as possible by allowing each node to dynamically and autonomously select a communication routes. However, the metric used in RPL, which is an indicator for route construction, does not consider the network load, which may also cause a bias in the communication load and reduce the overall transmission efficiency. To solve this problem, we propose a route selection method that controls the number of child nodes by adding the communication load of the network to the route construction metric in this paper. We compare and evaluate the transmission characteristics of the conventional method and the proposed method by computer simulation and show that the transmission routes decentralization by the proposed method is a factor that increases the overall transmission efficiency. |
