In recent years, there has been significant progress in the development of various quantum information technologies, including quantum computing, quantum measurement, and quantum sensing. Networking the quantum devices is expected to enable more diverse applications compared to their individual operation within the field of quantum information, like today's internet technology which makes possible many applications by interconnecting and exchanging data with devices and systems. This vision of the quantum network is known as the "quantum internet.'' There has been a global effort to realize the quantum internet. While individual quantum devices such as quantum computers are being developed using various physical systems such as atoms, ions, and superconductors, photonic quantum systems are the only physical systems capable of enabling quantum communication. Therefore, advancing the technologies for the quantum manipulation of photons is critical for the quantum internet. In this talk, I will present the latest global trends in quantum internet research, along with our recent studies, particularly in quantum frequency conversion and frequency-multiplexed quantum communication utilizing frequency control of photons. |
