Dysphagia is a significant issue that greatly impacts the quality of life. Pharyngeal contraction refers to the coordinated contraction of the meso-hypopharyngeal region during swallowing. In cases of dysphagia, this series of contractions may not be properly coordinated, leading to difficulty in smooth bolus passage to the esophagus. Quantitative, region-specific evaluation of pharyngeal contraction can facilitate the selection of appropriate treatments for dysphagia. This study aims to segment the pharyngeal region in 4DCT data and analyze the area profile of the pharyngeal air space to quantitatively evaluate differences in pharyngeal constriction between healthy individuals and patients with dysphagia, as well as to assess the state of pharyngeal constriction specific to different underlying conditions causing dysphagia. |
