Influence of Pointing Movements on Audiovisual Spatial Attention as Measured by Steady-State Evoked Potentials

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We investigated how pointing movements affect audiovisual spatial attention. In the experiment, participants simultaneously performed visual tasks with pointing movements and auditory tasks with pointing movements. Steady-state visual evoked potentials and auditory steady-state responses were measured to analyze the spatial distribution of visual and auditory attention. The results showed interactions between visual and auditory attention. Auditory attention shifted toward the same direction as visual attention. Similarly, visual attention was directed toward the same direction as auditory attention. These findings indicate a reciprocal interaction between audio-visual spatial attention processes.Furthermore, these results suggest the presence of movement preparation effects associated with pointing movements.
