Improvement of an Individualized Adaptive Quiz Service for the Elderly Aiming to Enhance Participation and Visualize Cognitive Memory Abilities

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Currently, as Japan's population ages, the number of elderly people suffering from dementia is increasing. Since it is difficult to fundamentally cure dementia and treatment is mainly aimed at slowing the progression of the disease, early detection of the disease is extremely important. However, because dementia progresses slowly without the patient being aware of it, it is extremely difficult to become aware of it. In addition, many elderly people feel psychologically and physically burdened by hospital examinations.
To solve these issues, in a previous study, we proposed and implemented a “Memory Keeper Quiz Service,” which helps the elderly to notice the decline in cognitive memory capacity by conducting quizzes about the user through daily interaction with an agent using the LINE application. Although this service achieved a certain level of success in that the quiz questions and answers are automated, it revealed issues such as low participation rates in the quiz and the fact that the results are displayed only as text, making them difficult to understand visually and difficult to reflect on over time.
The purpose of this study is to improve the quiz service to increase participation rates and facilitate visualization of results.
