Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Holography is an ideal 3D display technology for stereoscopic viewing. Since the amount of calculation required for generating holograms on a computer is enormous, there is a lot of research going on into high-speed calculation meth-ods. In this study, we implemented foveated rendering, which reduces the amount of calculation by reducing the resolu-tion of the peripheral region, into holography and conducted an evaluation experiment. We conducted experiments as-suming a fovea region of up to 9°, but we were unable to confirm any effect of foveated rendering. Furthermore, when we conducted a statistical test, we predicted that the central region would need to be around 10° to 16°. Based on this prediction, we confirmed that we could expect a speedup of 2 times when the field of view was 30°, and a speedup of more than 3 times when the field of view was 60°. This method, which increases the speedup effect in accordance with the expansion of the field of view, is expected to contribute to the future development of CGH.
