Recently, the importance of economic load dispatching control (EDC) of a power system is increasing because of the massive integration of the distributed power generation using renewable energy sources into a power system. This paper analyses the impacts of a sampling interval of EDC and a time constant of a low-pass filter in EDC on the performance of automatic generation control of a power system, focusing on the response of a coal-fired thermal power plant. As a result, the performance of AGC basically improves for smaller sampling interval in EDC. Although the better performance is basically achieved by reducing errors in estimating net demand at each sampling time, too short sampling interval can cause the increase of high-frequency component in ACE and could deteriorate the performance of AGC. The results show that appropriate time constant of the low-pass filter decreases the fluctuation in the area control error and in the output of coal-fired thermal power plant. |
