A Frequency-agile Beam-steerable Microstrip Filtering Array Antenna

(in English) A tunable filtering antenna (TFA) has both frequency selectivity function and frequency agile one by integrating a tunable filter and a tunable antenna into a single circuit. However, the TFA offers a fixed beam direction, and the beam steering function has not been realized yet. In this paper, we propose a new TFA array that has not only frequency-agile function but also beam steering one. As an example, we design a microstrip two-antenna-element TFA array with a tunable frequency range of 2.40-2.60 GHz and a constant absolute bandwidth of 200 MHz. This TFA array works as a frequency-agile antenna when two TFAs operate at same frequency, while it works as a beam-steerable antenna when two TFAs operate at different frequencies, resulting in beam-steering range of 0°to 34° Such functions are demonstrated through EM simulations and measurements.
