Measurement of basic characteristic of radio wave scattering in the 300GHz band using large-scale rainfall equipment

(in English) In recent years, communication using terahertz-band radio waves has been explored to address the growing scarcity of frequency resources in existing bands. While the terahertz band enables the use of broadband signals, it is also known for significant attenuation due to rain because of its short wavelength. In this study, we conducted fundamental measurements of radio wave scattering characteristics at 286.2 GHz under artificial rainfall conditions using a large-scale experimental setup. The results revealed an increase in received power during rainfall in non-line-of-sight conditions, attributed to scattering in off-axis directions as observed from the transmitting antenna.
