This paper examines the placement of relay nodes for multi-hop communication using Asynchronous Pulse Code Multiple Access (APCMA) with very low frequency radio waves. APCMA encodes data in intervals of a small number of pulses. To decode a message, a receiver simply finds a combination of pulses having valid intervals. Thus, it is possible to demultiplex and decode messages when they are overlapped with each other, which contributes to the high multiplexing capability of APCMA. In this paper, we propose a Genetic Algorithm-based algorithm to determine the placement of relay nodes which accomplishes the required message reception probability with the minimum number of relay nodes. We confirmed that our proposal can reduce the number of relay nodes by about 17% compared to the regular placement. However, we also found that there was a room for further improvement of our proposal. |
