Since lossy compression, which is used in many cases to compress video and images, degrades input data, an objective evaluation index is necessary to determine the degree of degradation, and a subjective evaluation data set is necessary to construct such an index.
Many conventional methods use data sets based on the concept of Mean Opinion Score (MOS), but these methods cannot measure degradation in a high-precision band with few differences.
In addition, although datasets with image patches have been constructed to save memory in machine learning, comparisons between patches and the entire image are scarce.
Laboratory experiments are rare, and crowdsourcing is often used.
In this paper, we use a forced two-option pairwise comparison method in a laboratory environment to create a subjective evaluation dataset of degradation in JPEG compression, including the high-quality band.
The data was collected not only for the entire image, but also for images patched from it, and comparative verification was performed.
The subjective evaluation in this experiment measured 1512 degraded images, which is more than the 982 degraded images in LIVE in the same lab environment. |
