A Study on University Students' Reception of News

(in English) Considering the need for the transmission of reliable news as a countermeasure against fake news, we attempted to clarify the actual state of news reception among news recipients in order to bridge the gap that facilitates understanding between news recipients and news senders. Specifically, we conducted focus group interviews with university students as representatives of the younger generation, whose patterns of news consumption differ from those of older generations. The results revealed that evaluations of news credibility are partly shaped by distinct criteria that traditional literacy education does not adequately address. Furthermore, we observed a gap between individuals’ normative views on the media and their information behavior.
