If sensor networks can collect image data in addition to sensor data, the amount of information obtained will increase dramatically, which will be very useful for monitoring natural disasters, for example.
Sensor networks often use Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) communication technologies such as LoRa, but it is difficult to transmit large amounts of data such as images using LPWA.
Therefore, the authors assume that image data is transmitted using Wi-Fi multi-hop communication.
Since Wi-Fi consumes a lot of power, a power supply for the sensor nodes is required.
For this reason, the authors have been developing ``Nishikaze,'' a stand-alone wind power supply based on a potential energy conversion method.
In this paper, the prototype of Nishikaze No. 4 was installed on the roof of the university building, and its performance was measured for about eight months.
The results show that the prototype of Nishikaze No. 4 can store 33 to 70 J of electricity per day.
It is also found that a sensor network consisting of sensor nodes equipped with a power-saving microprocessor ESP32 can collect about 500 kB of image data every four hours via Wi-Fi multi-hop communication. |
