Evaluation of the correspondence between waveform information and sensitive information for the timbre of bass drums -- Applying vector quantization of waveform features by SOM --

(in English) This study investigates the relationship between perceived timbral characteristics and waveform parameters of various bass drum sounds. The choice of bass drum timbre significantly affects a musical piece’s impression, yet no systematic selection criteria exist. To support music production, we suggest timbral recommendation systems. First, key waveform parameters were identified based on previous research. Then, a survey was conducted to evaluate perceptual attributes, followed by principal component analysis. In additon, correlations between waveform parameters and perceptual ratings were examined. Finally, a self-organizing map (SOM) was used for clustering timbres based on perceptual attributes, validating the relevance of waveform-perception relationships.
