[Short Paper] Estimating the altitude of a stratospheric balloon using time variations in latitude of Iridium satellite positioning

(in English) We are conducting experiments to collect data from sensors mounted on balloons flying in the stratosphere, utilizing Iridium satellite short burst communications. Although the positioning error associated with Iridium is larger than that of GPS, we are considering using the latitude and longitude information provided by Iridium satellites as a redundant system to ensure safe balloon operation. Additionally, we are exploring a method to estimate the balloon’s altitude based on the time fluctuations of Iridium positioning data. In this study, we investigate the slope of the time fluctuations in latitude from Iridium positioning data and report the findings on its correlation with balloon altitude.
