Dynamic point clouds representing volumetric video can be coded by using MPEG Video-based Point Cloud Compression(V-PCC). V-PCC projects each frame of 3D point clouds into several 2D frames encoded by using existing state-of-the-art 2D video codecs. RTP can be used for low-latency transmission of dynamic point clouds, but packet losses due to congestion and wireless errors significantly degrade the reconstruction quality. Despite that, existing concealment methods for 3D point clouds are not suitable for real deployment.
In this paper, we evaluate several state-of-the-art 2D frame interpolation and extrapolation models as error concealment methods on V-PCC 2D patch frames. The results show that while their performances vary according to V-PCC patch motions, they outperform the quality of past frame duplication and enable real-time concealment. |
