Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this study, we evaluate the effectiveness of two previously proposed mobility control methods for determining the optimal positions of Body Area Network (BAN) users under diverse mobility conditions, specifically focusing on whether each user opts to move. A technique has been proposed that leverages Wi-Fi ad hoc networking to interconnect multiple BANs, thereby providing a low-cost and reliable communication environment. To improve communication quality, we adopt a user mobility control approach, whereby users can relocate to enhance overall throughput. Although previous studies have examined centralized and distributed mobility control methods under the assumption that all users are willing to move, in practical environments some users may refuse relocation (e.g., if the new position is inconvenient), potentially degrading throughput performance. Accordingly, we investigate how varying numbers of immobile users affect the throughput characteristics of the two control methods. Our results show that when the number of immobile users is low, the centralized method outperforms the distributed method by approximately 1.5 times. In contrast, with a large number of immobile users, the centralized method’s throughput drops near zero, while the distributed method remains superior. These findings clarify the trade-offs between the centralized and distributed mobility control methods under diverse user mobility conditions.
