Evaluation of a Response Time Prediction Model for Microservice Placement to Meet End-to-End Latency Requirements in Geo-distributed Environments

(in English) Application placement in edge computing is particularly important for applications that require real-time data processing, necessitating an optimal placement method that takes into account communication delays and processing times between nodes. To design practical placement methods, it is essential to properly model and formulate the actual environment. In this study, we deployed a microservices-based sample application in geographically distributed computing environments and investigated the impact on real-time performance by varying the data communication volume and the configuration of the application itself. The investigation revealed the following two findings: (1) Communication delay between microservices does not change with an increase in the number of simultaneous requests, but significantly increases with the growth in communication data size. (2) As the number of branching data flows of microservices increases, both the end-to-end response time and its variance increase.
