Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In-band full-duplex communication improves frequency utilization efficiency. However, its implementation requires the cancellation mechanism of self-interference (SI). Since SI undergoes nonlinear effects in the amplifiers of transmitters and receivers, digital nonlinear SI cancellers have been developed. This report organizes the key considerations when designing RF front-ends for in-band full-duplex systems and highlights significant issues such as phase noise from local oscillators and nonlinear distortion characteristics of receivers. To address these challenges, we prototyped a 2.15 GHz in-band full-duplex experimental system using a low-IF (intermediate frequency) and shared-LO (local oscillator) architecture, and we present the evaluation results. The evaluation of the nonlinear SI canceller in the prototype demonstrated an SI cancellation performance of 57.9 dB. Additionally, it is shown that the low-IF and shared-LO architecture are effective for constructing RF front-ends for in-band full-duplex systems. Also, it is demonstrated that the limit of the digital SI canceller's performance can be estimated by measuring the loopback phase noise.
