Joint Estimation of IQ Imbalance and Nonlinearity with Real-Valued Receiver and Separable Nonlinear Least Squares

(in English) Impairments in radio frequency (RF) circuits distort signals and waveforms in wireless communications, wireless sensing, and wireless power transfer. Impairments in RF circuits occur in both transmitters and receivers, but there are cases where we only want to accurately estimate the effects of the transmitter. For example, this includes transmitter pre-distortion and its identification using these impairments. In this report, we estimate RF impairments using a real-valued receiver. A real-valued receiver can avoid the imbalance of the receive IQ mixer, but it is necessary to clarify the impact of the missing quadrature components on the estimation. The estimation targets are the imbalance of the transmit IQ mixer and the nonlinearity of the power amplifier. We adopt the separated nonlinear least squares method as the estimation method and verify the estimation accuracy. We show that even with a real-valued receiver, by controlling the input backoff, it is possible to estimate the IQ imbalance and nonlinearity simultaneously.
