In this study, to address the drawback of Vision Transformer (ViT) lacking inductive biases and requiring a large amount of data, we introduce the Gated Positional Convolutional Module (GPC Module) before ViT. This module enables the extraction of local features using CNN while integrating them with ViT’s self-attention mechanism, thereby improving data efficiency and overall performance. Evaluations on the CIFAR-10 dataset demonstrate that GPCViT outperform CNN, ViT, and ConViT. Furthermore, GPCViT reduces inference time compared to ViT and ConViT. This study highlights the potential of integrating CNN’s inductive biases with ViT’s global information processing to develop a high-accuracy yet computationally efficient image recognition model. |
