Applying Zero Trust Network for Smart Home Appliance Services

(in English) With the increase in the number of smart home appliances, cyber attacks and internal frauds against smart home appliances have been occurring. One of the cyber-attacks against smart home appliances is tampering with smart home appliances. The unauthorized manipulation of smart home appliances may cause physical harm to the user's body, life, or property. The purpose of this research is to prevent tampering with smart home appliances so that users can use them with peace of mind. In this study, we apply the IoT-ZTN system, in which zero-trust is applied to IoT devices, to smart home appliance services. As a use case, we selected a smart air conditioner among smart home appliances and proposed a scenario of a system to prevent an attacker from tampering with the temperature setting of the smart air conditioner, and conducted implementation and evaluation experiments. As a result of the experiment, we confirmed that the access rejection rate was 100% and no message was delivered to the smart air conditioner when the set temperature was defined as dangerous.
