Constant Amplitude OFDM with the Same Symbol Length for Millimeter-Wave Wireless Communications

(in English) When orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is adopted as the transmission scheme over millimeter-wave wireless channels, peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction is absolutely required. To minimize the PAPR, we have proposed constant amplitude OFDM (CA-OFDM) that decomposes the time-domain OFDM signal into two CA signals and that transmits these at different timing. Since CA-OFDM doubles the OFDM symbol length, this report reduces the number of OFDM subcarriers by half and sets the subcarrier modulation at higher-order modulation scheme that can double the bit rate, which results in the same symbol length and throughput. Furthermore, in order to obtain robustness against the phase noise, the transmitter allocates the above two CA signals adjacent to each other, while the receiver performs the frequency-domain equalization and then compensates for degradation caused by the phase noise. To verify the fundamental characteristic of the proposed scheme, computer simulations over frequency selective fading channels without the phase noise demonstrate that the proposed scheme can maintain excellent throughput performance while keeping the same OFDM symbol length.
