Improved malware code interpretation with GPT-4 Yasuyuki Tanaka, Wataru Matsuda, Takeshi Nakatsuru (NTT) ICSS2024-113 |

In the past, we focused on GPT-4's code interpretation capabilities and conducted experiments to comprehensively clarify its malware code interpretation performance using data that covered as many behaviors used in malware as possible. We obtained disassembly/decompiled code for functions corresponding to 233 typical malware behaviors in 35 categories and analyzed whether each behavior could be identified. In this paper, we report the results of improvement experiments on the approximately 30% of decompiled code that could not be identified in the evaluation results. We devised name resolution for immediate values in the code, devised the use of RAG to address lack of knowledge, and improved the prompt, which were areas where GPT-4 was weak. We will explain what we were able to improve and what was difficult to improve. |
