Low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks, represented by Starlink, have been rapidly advancing. However, related researches have reported that communications using Starlink suffer from link quality fluctuations and performance degradation due to handovers.
In this study, we propose a method that predicts the orbit of each satellite based on variations in RTT to select satellites that can provide longer communication durations. We then reproduced the next-generation satellite configuration, characterized by an increased number of satellites and diversified orbital altitudes, using the ns-3 LEO module to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
As a result, our method increased communication duration by 114.8% compared to AODV, demonstrating that it effectively addresses the challenge of stable route establishment identified in previous study. |
