Digital cameras generally have image sensors with a Bayer-pattern color filter array. The RAW images captured by these image sensors are characterized by each pixel having only one of the RGB luminance values. For this reason, RGB full-color images are generated by demosaicking the RAW image. However, as the color channel of each pixel is tripled by demosaicking, it is essential to compress the RAW image directly from a compression perspective. We propose a hierarchical lossless coding method that uses color difference prediction with a cellular neural network (CNN) as a predictor for the four sub-images (Gr, Gb, R, B) of a RAW image. Here, color difference prediction is achieved by compensating for the misalignment between each sub-image of the RAW image using image interpolation. |
