In recent years, Body Area Networks (BANs), which enable wireless communication in and around the human body, have garnered significant attention alongside advancements in wireless communication technology. The IEEE 802.15.6ma standard for BAN communication considers Ultra-Wideband (UWB) transmission for mutual communication between Human BANs (HBANs), installed on the human body, and Vehicle BANs (VBANs), installed on vehicles, as an application example. UWB radio can achieve high resolution time of arrival estimation in principle thus enabling highly accurate position estimation, and its application in systems like smart keys is highly anticipated. Additionally, in HBANs, ranging has potential applications for safety assistance, such as aiding visually impaired individuals. This paper evaluates the impact of the BAN environment near vehicles on ranging accuracy and propagation characteristics through computer simulations and experiments conducted with actual vehicles. |
