In recent years, networks have become the foundation of our social lives, and the impact of prolonged network failures has been substantial, necessitating rapid recovery. For effective recovery, it is crucial to quickly and accurately isolate the cause of the failure to prevent delays and rework in subsequent recovery measures.
Since networks employ various devices and perform complex control to realize diverse services, a single failure can affect the device where the issue originated and surrounding devices, resulting in multiple consequential alarms. In such cases, operators must first correlate these alarms to identify a fault's details accurately. However, this correlation process requires advanced knowledge of the network structure, making it highly challenging and potentially leading to extended working hours and errors.
We have been working on automating the correlation process using AI based on Bayesian networks to address these issues. We have progressed to applying this technology to the actual operation of networks. In this presentation, we will discuss our challenges in this process, such as defining appropriate metrics and improving accuracy, which are common issues when applying AI to operational environments. We will also share examples of how we addressed these challenges. |
