Exploring the Friis Transmission Formula

About 10 years ago, we explored some mysterious points in the Friis transmission formula [1]. In this report, I will focus on the following three points to which we did not refer at the time. 1) The relationship between antenna gain and effective area plays an important role in the Friis formula, but is there a way to directly derive the effective area from an omnidirectional antenna? 2) How we draw a transmission system diagram of the formula considering the functions of both the transmitting and receiving antennas? 3) Both received powers calculated using the Friis formula and an electromagnetic method will lead to the same answer as a matter of course, but what is the link between these two methods with different viewpoints? |
