Performance Improvement of LDM Transmission Scheme for Satellite Broadcasting -- Constellation Design Based on BICM Capacity --

(in English) We are developing a satellite broadcasting system with layered division multiplexing (LDM) that multiplexes multiple modulation signals with different power levels as injection level (IL) in the same channel with the aim of providing services flexibly in accordance with receiving quality. LDM consists of an upper layer (UL) with high power and a lower layer (LL) with low power, and it enables the transmission of signal with different levels of robustness and bit rate in the single channel.
So far, we have confirmed that rotating the constellation of the LL signal can improve the required C/N of the UL signal. This paper proposes a method to efficiently optimize the rotation angle of the LL signal’s constellation based on BICM capacity. Although LDM allows for the configuration of various parameters, such as modulation scheme, coding rate, IL, and rotation angle, this method optimizes the constellation of the LDM signal without requiring a performance evaluation for all parameter combinations related to the rotation angle.
