In this study, we address the issue of clarifying the impact of the access point antenna height on both the theoretical propagation loss and the measured throughput in wireless LAN. To address this issue, we conducted an experimental evaluation using wireless devices with antennas installed at a height of 1.5m and at a height of 0.5m. We then compared the measured throughput with the theoretical propagation loss values. The evaluation results from the experiment revealed that the throughput measured by changing only the antenna installation height maintained the same order relationship as the theoretical propagation loss values for both the 1.5 m and 0.5 m antenna heights. Additionally, we confirmed a correlation between the variations in measured throughput and theoretical propagation loss. The average throughput varied by a factor of more than 10 between the two antenna heights. These findings highlight the importance of antenna height when modeling the distance-throughput characteristics. |
