This report proposes a novel connection method to address challenges related to establishing a communication environment using Raspberry Pi in IoT exercises conducted as part of recurrent education at our university.
In conventional exercises, Raspberry Pi devices and personal PCs were connected to the network via a router. However, this method made it difficult to identify individual devices, and in an environment where multiple devices were connected simultaneously, it posed challenges in monitoring each participant’s device usage and ensuring traceability of communications from the server to each terminal.
Furthermore, in network environments that require authentication, IoT devices such as Raspberry Pi could not be connected directly, necessitating the use of mobile routers.
To address these issues, this report proposes an exercise environment in which personal PCs function as access points (APs) to which Raspberry Pi devices are connected.
This environment overcomes the aforementioned networking challenges and enables individual monitoring of device usage, thereby improving transparency and manageability within the local network.
In addition, a survey was conducted with eight students to evaluate the usability and comprehension of the network environment, providing an assessment of the proposed exercise setup. |
