Silver chalcogenide Ag_2(S,Se,Te) is characterized by a small magnitude of the lattice thermal conductivity as low as 0.5 Wm^{-1}K^{-1} and electron transport properties of typical semiconductors. In this study, we investigated the mechanism leading to the low lattice thermal conductivity by means of MEM-Rietveld analysis and ultrasonic pulse-echo method. The performance of heat flow switching device, thermal diodes, and thermoelectric generators could be enhanced with semiconductors characterized by low lattice thermal conductivity. Indeed, we succeeded in developing high-performance heat flow switching devices, thermal diodes, and thermoelectric generators using the Ag_2(S,Se,Te). |
