Radio waves are significantly attenuated underwater, making it difficult to collect information using radar or optical sensors. For this reason, sound waves, which have relatively little attenuation, are used as the main means of collecting information. However, the conditions of sound propagation change depending on the underwater environments (water temperature, salinity, seafloor topography, etc.), so they need to be captured accurately. ATLA, NSRC is working to realize " Visualization of the underwater environment" which captures the sound propagation in the ocean and detects underwater targets. This paper provides an overview of underwater sensing technology and introduces research on NSRC. |
