With the advancement of digitalization, the use of mobile devices and IoT equipment within buildings has rapidly expanded, making the establishment of a stable wireless LAN network increasingly important. Although wireless LANs offer advantages such as low installation and operational costs, their communication performance is susceptible to variations caused by obstacles and building layouts, making it difficult to cover an entire building with only a small number of access points. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel system for wireless LAN deployment that utilizes metal pipes installed within buildings as radio wave propagation paths to efficiently extend wireless LAN coverage. In particular, since communication characteristics within metal piping are expected to differ from those in free space, detailed performance evaluation is essential. This paper investigates the communication characteristics of wireless LAN environments constructed using metal piping by conducting experiments with multiple IEEE 802.11 frequency bands. The study also examines environments in which part of the metal piping includes non-metallic sections, and discusses future prospects for the development of wireless network systems based on these findings. |
