This paper investigates a decentralized and autonomous frequency block-dependent sleep control of base stations (BSs) to improve energy efficiency under an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) traffic model. In the FTP traffic model, a user is assigned a finite payload to transmit when it arrives, and it leaves the system after the payload transmission is completed. This model allows for the evaluation of the adaptability of BS sleep control methods to changes in the number of active users in the system coverage area. The proposed method adaptively updates the activation probability of each frequency block based on the number of connected users at the local and neighboring BSs to improve energy efficiency. Two types of sleep states are considered: switching between active and sleep states can be performed immediately, and the deep-sleep state, which takes time to switch but consumes less energy than the micro-sleep state. The proposed method updates the probability of each frequency block entering the micro-sleep state to effectively leverage both states depending on traffic conditions. Computer simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method compared to conventional probabilistic and deep Q-network (DQN)-based methods. |
