[Invited Lecture] GaN Power Amplifiers for Far-field Wireless Power Transfer

(in English) The far-field wireless power transfer has attracted attention as a technology capable of efficiently delivering power over long distances. It is expected to play a significant role not only in powering the rapidly growing number of small IoT devices but also in supplying energy to new platforms such as drones and high-altitude platform stations (HAPS). Moreover, its potential applications extend to space development, including space solar power systems (SSPS), as well as rovers for Mars and lunar exploration. In this report, we present the design and measurement results of two types of highly efficient gallium nitride (GaN) amplifiers. The first is an ultra-high-efficiency GaN power amplifier operating in the 5.8 GHz band for SSPS applications. The second is a compact, high-efficiency GaN monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) amplifier operating in the 24 GHz band.
