Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Several years ago, we proposed a simple method to convert (almost) any sound into a signal suitable for acoustic impulse response measurements by setting a lower limit for the absolute value of each discrete frequency bin. The method utilizes the discrete Fourier transform, a unitary transform that preserves the number of elements.
We reformulated the signal safeguarding based on a concept called "Giant-FFT," originally introduced as an elegant algorithm for sampling rate conversion.
This article reports the effects of modifications and extensions of the procedure based on our preliminary application of the method to various practical situations. These include, for example, frequency-dependent lower limits, processing of arbitrary-length signals, repetition-free measurement, and alignment of different A/D and D/A sampling clocks.
We conducted tests by simulations using several RIR (room impulse response) databases and real-world data to evaluate these extensions.
We open-sourced a generalized signal safeguarding function with a built-in giant-FFT-based sampling-rate conversion.
