Optical modulator, which modulates the temporal and the spatial optical responses including reflection, transmission, and absorption, has been attracting attention toward the advanced optical measurements, because the beam shape can be adjusted for the measurement purpose. Especially, spatial optical phase modulator composing of liquid crystals and silicon integrated circuits is commercially available, and various applications have been reported. In contrast, the authors are studying on a new type of all-solid-state optical modulator based on thermo-optic effect which is the refractive index change of material with response to the temperature. This report focuses on the absorption among optical responses, the temperature dependence of spectroscopic light sensitivity in silicon photodiode with metal diffraction grating is discussed based on the FDTD and measured results. |
