Electrical contacts with a fixed contact made of a silver cylindrical rod and a movable contact with resistors was separated at a constant separating speed of 1.0 m/s in a 200 VDC/10 A resistive circuit to generate break arcs. Transverse magnetic field is applied to the break arcs, and the anode spots are induced to the electrode via the resistor-equipped electrode. The results of analyzing the arc duration of the break arcs and the relationship with the resistance value Rx of the resistors are reported. The resistance value Rx of the resistors mounted on the movable contact are set to 0 Ω, 10 Ω, 20 Ω, 40 Ω, and 100 Ω. The magnetic flux density By of the transverse magnetic field is set to 20 mT. Following results are shown. When the Rx was 0 Ω, 10 Ω, 20 Ω, and 40 Ω, the anode spots were transferred to the electrode. When the Rx is 100 Ω, the anode spots was not transferred to the electrode. When the Rx is 40 $Omega$, the arc duration was the shortest. When the Rx is 100 Ω, the arc duration was the longest. |
