Link Selection Method Using Site and Satellite Diversity for Low Latency LEO Constellation Communication Systems

(in English) For beyond 5G/6G systems, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations are attracting attention for their ability to provide low-latency communication over wide areas, including regions with inadequate infrastructure. On the other hand, LEO constellations face the problem of throughput degradation due to rainfall attenuation in satellite-to-ground communications. Therefore, diversity methods are used to bypass rainfall areas and select flexibly other satellites. However, when applying diversity methods in LEO satellite constellations, it may not be possible to select the link with the minimum signal attenuation. Furthermore, the impact of transmission and queuing delays varies with data size. Therefore, this paper proposes a method to globally optimize the topology by modeling satellite-to-ground links and incorporating these delay times. We have verified in a specific case through a simulation scenario involving data transmission from Tokyo to London.
