As farmers are aging, there is an urgent need to popularize smart agriculture, including the automation and mechanization of various agricultural tasks. We have been working with agricultural researchers on research and development to automate pollination, which is currently a heavy labor in fruit cultivation. We are developing a "honeybee drone" that flies according to a flight plan in apple orchards with high density planting, recognizes flower clusters using AI, and shoots pollen at the central flowers. This paper introduces the entire system and mission equipment, and describes its field evaluation. |
